An extension of Midtown Oklahoma City’s Commonplace Books, the Kitchen at Commonplace was designed as a neighborhood room for simple food, all-day drinks, literary readings, supper clubs, and the occasional quiet hour. The brief was compact: make 900 square feet feel useful, warm, and genuinely welcoming without losing the character of the bookstore next door.
The bookstore’s signature green epoxy floor carries through the space. Wood-paneled walls and subway tile echo the rhythm of book spines glimpsed through the connecting passage, while custom cabinetry gives the kitchen serious storage without making it feel back-of-house. A poured-concrete bar wraps the prep and service area, extending from the cashier station into communal seating that puts guests in conversation with the staff—and often with one another.
