John Marshall Middle School is organized as a cluster of concrete buildings connected by open breezeways. Gardner Studio renovated the administration, classroom, and media-center buildings and used the work to give the campus a clearer front door.
A new glass vestibule and covered walk make arrival easier to understand and bring a more open expression to the existing concrete structure. Inside, the team worked around low ceilings and tight existing conditions to add color, improve wayfinding, and replace the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection systems. The result respects the building’s sturdy framework while making the everyday experience brighter, clearer, and more welcoming.
