This $6.8M design literally and figuratively bridges the north and south portions of Oklahoma City’s new Scissortail Park as described in the Core to Shore Master Plan and connecting Oklahoma City’s past with a bolder and more imaginative future. Inspired by Oklahoma’s state bird, the scissor-tailed flycatcher, the bridge is a 380-foot-long pedestrian bridge featuring a 197-foot-tall sculpture.
Skydance Bridge also represents the connection between people and place. Intended to be multi-directional, it is symbolic of the American crossroads as it marks the “X” where east meets west, and where the City’s core meets the Oklahoma River.
This project involved extensive collaboration with ODOT, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, and the City of Oklahoma City while navigating installing a bridge that spanned heavily trafficked I-40. A creative methodology for designing this was developed and the final installation was assembled in parts on a very strict timeline given the scheduling challenges of highway work.
